Treasure This

My pups are always doing silly things, and I try my best to capture those moments. This next layout features Ruby Mae being goofy with a blanket last year.

Treasure This

I used Teresa Collins “You’re My Happy” collection, along with 2 different Tattered Angels mists, using the packaging technique for my background.

The design is based on Let’s Get Sketchy Week 2, May sketch:

12718393_869602696481496_5103222694175829712_n

I stayed true to the sketch, adding the corner piece to give it some interest. Really love how this turned out!

I chose Teresa Collins for the May Manufacturer Challenge at ACOT – to use the letter “T” and for bonus, do mixed media. You knew I had to do the bonus right!?!?! 😉

Pool Fun

I got a bit messy with this next layout. I am IN LOVE with Shimmerz products!! They are truly amazing! I used 2 Vibez — Jeni B Bleu and Deap Blue Sea – to make my background. I then used 2 different Simple Stories Summer collections for my photo mats, chipboard and sticker embellishments.

Summer Fun

My sweet Bear playing in her pool last year. She sure was having lots of fun!

That PL-style card is actually a stencil by Crafters Workshop. I sure do love it! I added chipboard and enamel shapes to liven it up.

DSCN6600

The design is based on Paper Issues “Sketchy Saturday”:

may sketch

This sketch offered so many possibilities!! Will definetly keep it for later.

I was inspired by the blueish teal background based on Deanna’s Mood Board Challenge:

337201-490

I almost went monochromatic…but with that orange pool in those pics, orange and other summery colors had to be represented! 😉

I even snuck in some of the Paper Studio “To Do List” washi tape from my May Use it or Lose It Challenge! 🙂

TFL! 🙂

You & Me

I just got some new stencils from Crafter’s Workshop and a watercolor brush from Zig. Been playing with both this weekend and I just love how fun they are.

This next layout is for the ACOT Guest Designer Challenge #1 – Splatter Away! We are to use at least 2 inks/mists to splatter on a white background. Here is what I came up with:

You & Me

I used gelatos and watered them down to do the splatters and the stencil work. I chose the colors by using the triangle washi tape for inspiration, pulling in the orange, yellow and turquoise. Really love the colors together.

DSCN6498

I tried a new technique this weekend too – using tangled thread to put underneath flair buttons. I’ve been seeing lots of people do that and I’ve been wanting to try it, just never really felt the need to. Until now. And I LOVE the LOOK of it too! Will definetly do it again!

DSCN6499

DSCN6500

I’m also submitting this layout to ACOT’s Title Challenge. We must use the title “You & Me” and at least one heart. Since I was using flair buttons already, I came across the & flair and thought it would be perfect to use for the title. Since the ampersand was so large, I went with turquoise small alphas from Basic Grey to finish off the title.

I also used embellishments from CTMH. Those are the flair buttons, the veneers (arrow, butterfly and heart) and the puffy stickers. The turquoise in the set was perfect little accents! And if you remember, those CTMH puffies are from my April Use It or Lose It Challenge.

The design for this layout is based on a sketch from Let’s Get Sketchy – April, Week 2.

Team B Week 1

I really love the design of this – the border on the left, the rings and the single photo.

Cute & Cuddly

This next layout came together so quickly, even with all the little details:

Cute & Cuddly

The picture is of my parents’ dog, Little Bit, doing what he does best – snuggling under the blanket.

DSCN6383

I misted my background with a yellow mist (Tattered Angels). After it was dried, I used my “My Favorite Things” paw print stencil to add textured paws sporadictly (using spackling paste from home depot). The pattern papers, stickers, and die cuts are from Jillibean Soup “Fur Fusion” collection.

DSCN6381

I stitched around the arrows to not only emphasize them, but for ACOT’s Title Challenge, stitching was a requirement. I almost (gasp!) forgot about the stitching until I was almost done with the layout. I didn’t want to re-do anything, so stitching around the arrows seemed to be a good way to go, and I loved how it turned out. The “title” had to be any form of the following words: HUGS, KISSES, COZY, CUDDLE, and/or SNUGGLE. I was going to use “Nice & Cozy” as my title, but as I was digging thru the die cuts, I found the “Cute & Cuddly” instead! Perfect! 🙂

The design is based on Let’s Get Sketchy, February Week 3 Sketch:

LGS Week 3 Feb

I loved the background work – that is where I got inspired to use my mist and just kind of spray it on, not really caring about exactly where it goes. Instead of triangles, I fussy-cut the diamonds out of pattern paper.

Lunch at Chili’s

Still trying to get as many layouts done before the new year arrives! This layout features me and my hubby a few years ago at Chili’s. Its for ACOT’s “What’s on TV? Challenge” – which the hostess chose DINERS, DRIVE-INS, & DIVES and the challenge is that one photo must show a restaurant/cafe, inside or out.

Lunch at Chilis

The design for this layout is based on Let’s Get Sketchy, December Week 2 sketch.

11988198_769648323143601_1074813688535620376_n

When I saw this sketch, I knew I was going to do some mixed media. Taking the colors from both our shirts, I chose to use gelatos in Snow Cone, Metallic Blueberry and Aqua Dolce and the red is mist from Tattered Angels. I used the packaging technique, which I’m so in love with!

DSCN6245

I even tried stamping on top of all the gelatos/mist. I need to practice a bit more, but I still like the affect.

DSCN6246

The “Please & Thank You” is a die cut piece from Basic Grey’s “Fact or Fiction” collection (all the papers, bits and pieces and brad came from that collection). I fussy cut the frame, and then trimmed a bit more, popping up the phrase, so it stands out, with the red mist in the background.

Love

Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful time with their Family and Friends this past Christmas weekend!

Today, I want to share with you a mixed media layout, featuring Miss Penny chewing on a bone. I used some new Heidi Swapp chipboard pieces I had gotten thru an envie earlier this month, as well as using my new heat tool to dry the gesso, gelatos, and mist quicker (thanks to my BFF for my Hobby Lobby GC!)

Love (5)

I used clear gesso to prime the paper. Still kind of warped, since I used Reminisce pattern papers (a little thinner than most). I used various stickers from Heidi Swapp, MAMBI, and Teresa Collins. Washi tape is by Little B. Title is from Anna Griffin

DSCN6226

I used Let’s Get Sketchy December Week 3 sketch. I just loved the single photo and the splatterings.

11953123_769648273143606_7320425868058712654_n

I’m also submitting this layout for ACOT’s Spelling Challenge. I could spell out CHRISTMAS or HOLIDAYS. I chose CHRISTMAS:
C = clear gesso
H = Heidi Swapp Chipboard pieces
R = Reminisce pattern papers
I = ink (pink)
S = Spearmint gelato
T = Tattered Angels mist (yellow)
M = MAMBI chipboard piece
A = Anna Griffin word title
S = stickers (Wonderful, Love This by Teresa Collins)

Sketch-n-Scrap Reveal #93

Hello everyone! Today I want to share with you a wonderful sketch by the talented Kelly Holifield! Its set up for 2 photos and lots of fun little hexagons!

November 15th Sketch

I had so many ideas in my head when I saw this sketch. Then..it hit me. I have a 12×12 stencil with 5 different sizes of hexagons. I’m tinkering around with Mixed Media lately and wanted to add texture to my layouts. But sometimes I forget…or I don’t want to mess up. Which is my biggest worry. LOL. But I know that practice makes perfect and its okay to get messy. So here is what I came up with:

Brandy - Nov 15th Layout

The background paper already has texture – its like crushed velvet. But I thought using spackling paste (from Home Depot), would jazz it up a bit! I colored the 3 smaller ones in the upper left corner with a mixture of black gelato and water. But I left the others white as to “pop” off the paper!

DSCN6104

The flowers are by Prima and I thought the sequins added a pretty touch too.

And lets not forget about the journaling card.

DSCN6103

Funny story, that journaling card. So I hosted our last crop of 2015 Oct 17th/18th, so my girls were with me as I was working on it. I was almost done, but was at a lost at where I should add the journal card. First I wanted to place it to the right of the large photo. Nah…how about to the left of the smaller photo…mmm…Hhhhmm..not sure. So I asked my friend Amanda. She was like, “Well, yeah..you could..but…how about this?” and she mentioned placing it over the left corner of where the hexagons were, but with a tilt. I was like…”ooooOOOOO…” I then showed Misty and Laura and yep, they loved the idea too! I was going to place it there, but then it looked plain. So I wrapped some twine around it and tied a small bow and wholla! Perfection! Sometimes a second set of eyes (or 3 or 4) is what you need to polish off a layout! That’s what scrappy friends are for! 🙂

Please make sure to stop by the Sketch N Scrap blog to check out the rest of the fabulous layouts by the design team! Hope you play along!

A girl and her dog

This layout ended up coming out alot better than expected. ACOT’s Guest Designer for October had a Recipe Challenge that we had to follow.  Most of the ingredients were not a problem — more than 1 photo, 2 fonts for the title, mixed media,  2 or more washi tapes, wood veneers and/or chipboard, and stickers. Got it. But the second item….ONLY 1 PIECE OF PATTERN PAPER. No cardstock. No other paper at all. Project Life Cards, however, were cool. But ONE piece of pattern paper? Wow. So I got to digging thru my stash and pulled out this subtle dot/heart pattern paper from Basic Grey. Its a little on the thin side, so I knew the mixed media would not hold unless I prepped it with gesso. Which I did. Followed with some Tattered Angels mist using the “packaging technique”. I used a black gelato and coffee ring stencil and then I layered my photos on top. The rest fell into place.

A girl and her dog

The veneer word bubbles are from Freckled Fawn, which I colored using gelatos. My mini alphas are Authentique; larger alphas are from Pink Paislee. They too are wood veneers, and I used a black gelato to color those. Black comes off quite easily, so I coated it with Faber-Castell Glaze to help seal it.

DSCN6125

The washi tapes are from Queen & Co, heart veneer (again, colored with a gelato) is by Studio Calico. The sticker is by 7 Paper.

DSCN6124

Speaking of 7 Paper, I used their little PL style cards to mat my photos, which were taken in Feb 2012. My little doggie Jeffrey wanted some attention, and my hubby grabbed the camera and started taking pics.

The layout was inspired by a sketch by Brenshevia, over at Let’s Get Sketchy:

Here is the complete list of my products used:
background paper: Basic Grey
washi tapes: Queen & Co
stickers, photo mats (PL style cards): 7 Paper
veneer heart: Studio Calico
veneer word bubbles: Freckled Fawn
veneer alphas: Pink Paislee
little alphas: Authentique
stencil: Crafters Workshop

Friends Fur-Ever

When Rob and I closed on our house, we made sure to bring the doggies over to the house at least once before move in day. My dogs have never known anything other than the previous house, so we didn’t know if they were going to freak out, get upset, try to dig out, etc. So the day after we closed, we took all four dogs over to the new home. Jeffrey had already been there, but the girls – it was their first time. And I made sure to capture those moments.

One of my fave moments of that day was to watch Ruby and Bear (who are 10 yr old litter mates) explore the yard. Together. With Ruby eventually leading the way.

Friends Fur-Ever

I’m in love with MAMBI’s newest stickers – both sticker and chipboard! They go with almost any subject.

DSCN5800

My stencil work (needs more work..lol) was from My Favorite Things (the staggered paws) and I used a black gelato mixed with a bit of glaze (both from Faber-Castell). I really love how it turned out.

I went with this color theme (blues, purples, neutrals, gold, silver, and grey) to participate in ACOT’s Disney Challenge. I don’t do this challenge often as I’ve never been to Disney World, and I’ve only been to Disney Land once (but I was young, before I was a scrapper). But this month, the hostess had us use a picture of the Castle as inspiration and made it a color challenge!

My layout is based on a wonderful sketch from Let’s Get Sketchy (May – Week 4):

11062167_691086164333151_8170102620421393017_n

I pretty much stuck to the sketch. I love the use of 2 photos, with layers and either stencils or stamps or gelatos or even mist! This sketch has so many possibilities!

The complete list of my materials are as follows:
Background paper: Basic Grey
blue pattern paper, die cut title: Anna Griffin
mist: Tattered Angels
cardstock: DCWV
chipboard arrow/heart, word bubble, stickers: MAMBI
gelato, glaze: Faber-Castell
washi: Little B
stencil: My Favorite Things
black pattern paper: from stash
