Sketch-n-Scrap Reveal #93

Hello everyone! Today I want to share with you a wonderful sketch by the talented Kelly Holifield! Its set up for 2 photos and lots of fun little hexagons!

November 15th Sketch

I had so many ideas in my head when I saw this sketch. Then..it hit me. I have a 12×12 stencil with 5 different sizes of hexagons. I’m tinkering around with Mixed Media lately and wanted to add texture to my layouts. But sometimes I forget…or I don’t want to mess up. Which is my biggest worry. LOL. But I know that practice makes perfect and its okay to get messy. So here is what I came up with:

Brandy - Nov 15th Layout

The background paper already has texture – its like crushed velvet. But I thought using spackling paste (from Home Depot), would jazz it up a bit! I colored the 3 smaller ones in the upper left corner with a mixture of black gelato and water. But I left the others white as to “pop” off the paper!

The flowers are by Prima and I thought the sequins added a pretty touch too.

And lets not forget about the journaling card.

Funny story, that journaling card. So I hosted our last crop of 2015 Oct 17th/18th, so my girls were with me as I was working on it. I was almost done, but was at a lost at where I should add the journal card. First I wanted to place it to the right of the large photo. Nah…how about to the left of the smaller photo…mmm…Hhhhmm..not sure. So I asked my friend Amanda. She was like, “Well, yeah..you could..but…how about this?” and she mentioned placing it over the left corner of where the hexagons were, but with a tilt. I was like…”ooooOOOOO…” I then showed Misty and Laura and yep, they loved the idea too! I was going to place it there, but then it looked plain. So I wrapped some twine around it and tied a small bow and wholla! Perfection! Sometimes a second set of eyes (or 3 or 4) is what you need to polish off a layout! That’s what scrappy friends are for! 🙂

The Windjammer

I am really slow at scrapping my pics that I took when I went on that cruise last April. So usually when I do scrap those photos, its for a challenge. And sure enough, ACOT’s Guest Designer has chosen a Travel Challenge!

Here’s my layout, featuring Laurie and I getting our first meal:

The Windjammer

I ended up using gelatos for half my layout. Created my background with metallic melon, sealing with some Faber-Castell Glaze. Then just went crazy with the layers! All papers are from Fancy Pants “Collecting Memories” collection. This whole collection, along with some washi tape and other small embellishments, is my homemade “kit” I created for ACOT’s “Kill a Kit” Challenge. So far this month, I’ve created 8 layouts so far! Woo-hoo!

I then layered some fun washi tape (stamps and arrows). One is from Love My Tapes, the other is The Paper Studio.

I then added some spackling paste to my coffee stains stencil. Yes, you read right. Spackling Paste. What you would find in the Hardware store (Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc). Everytime I think about picking up modeling paste or whipped spackle, whereever I go, they are out, or don’t carry it. So I figured I’d try out spackling paste. And OMG! I just love the results!

The chipboard pieces are from Cloud 9 Design. Just fun little accents – thought they went quite well on a layout about a cruise!

The layout is based on Sketches in Thyme Sketch #155
