Cute & Cuddly

This next layout came together so quickly, even with all the little details:

Cute & Cuddly

The picture is of my parents’ dog, Little Bit, doing what he does best – snuggling under the blanket.

I misted my background with a yellow mist (Tattered Angels). After it was dried, I used my “My Favorite Things” paw print stencil to add textured paws sporadictly (using spackling paste from home depot). The pattern papers, stickers, and die cuts are from Jillibean Soup “Fur Fusion” collection.

I stitched around the arrows to not only emphasize them, but for ACOT’s Title Challenge, stitching was a requirement. I almost (gasp!) forgot about the stitching until I was almost done with the layout. I didn’t want to re-do anything, so stitching around the arrows seemed to be a good way to go, and I loved how it turned out. The “title” had to be any form of the following words: HUGS, KISSES, COZY, CUDDLE, and/or SNUGGLE. I was going to use “Nice & Cozy” as my title, but as I was digging thru the die cuts, I found the “Cute & Cuddly” instead! Perfect! 🙂

The design is based on Let’s Get Sketchy, February Week 3 Sketch:

LGS Week 3 Feb

I loved the background work – that is where I got inspired to use my mist and just kind of spray it on, not really caring about exactly where it goes. Instead of triangles, I fussy-cut the diamonds out of pattern paper.

Sketch-n-Scrap Reveal #93

Hello everyone! Today I want to share with you a wonderful sketch by the talented Kelly Holifield! Its set up for 2 photos and lots of fun little hexagons!

November 15th Sketch

I had so many ideas in my head when I saw this sketch. Then..it hit me. I have a 12×12 stencil with 5 different sizes of hexagons. I’m tinkering around with Mixed Media lately and wanted to add texture to my layouts. But sometimes I forget…or I don’t want to mess up. Which is my biggest worry. LOL. But I know that practice makes perfect and its okay to get messy. So here is what I came up with:

Brandy - Nov 15th Layout

The background paper already has texture – its like crushed velvet. But I thought using spackling paste (from Home Depot), would jazz it up a bit! I colored the 3 smaller ones in the upper left corner with a mixture of black gelato and water. But I left the others white as to “pop” off the paper!

The flowers are by Prima and I thought the sequins added a pretty touch too.

And lets not forget about the journaling card.

DSCN6103

Funny story, that journaling card. So I hosted our last crop of 2015 Oct 17th/18th, so my girls were with me as I was working on it. I was almost done, but was at a lost at where I should add the journal card. First I wanted to place it to the right of the large photo. Nah…how about to the left of the smaller photo…mmm…Hhhhmm..not sure. So I asked my friend Amanda. She was like, “Well, yeah..you could..but…how about this?” and she mentioned placing it over the left corner of where the hexagons were, but with a tilt. I was like…”ooooOOOOO…” I then showed Misty and Laura and yep, they loved the idea too! I was going to place it there, but then it looked plain. So I wrapped some twine around it and tied a small bow and wholla! Perfection! Sometimes a second set of eyes (or 3 or 4) is what you need to polish off a layout! That’s what scrappy friends are for! 🙂

Friends Fur-Ever

When Rob and I closed on our house, we made sure to bring the doggies over to the house at least once before move in day. My dogs have never known anything other than the previous house, so we didn’t know if they were going to freak out, get upset, try to dig out, etc. So the day after we closed, we took all four dogs over to the new home. Jeffrey had already been there, but the girls – it was their first time. And I made sure to capture those moments.

One of my fave moments of that day was to watch Ruby and Bear (who are 10 yr old litter mates) explore the yard. Together. With Ruby eventually leading the way.

Friends Fur-Ever

I’m in love with MAMBI’s newest stickers – both sticker and chipboard! They go with almost any subject.

My stencil work (needs more work..lol) was from My Favorite Things (the staggered paws) and I used a black gelato mixed with a bit of glaze (both from Faber-Castell). I really love how it turned out.

I went with this color theme (blues, purples, neutrals, gold, silver, and grey) to participate in ACOT’s Disney Challenge. I don’t do this challenge often as I’ve never been to Disney World, and I’ve only been to Disney Land once (but I was young, before I was a scrapper). But this month, the hostess had us use a picture of the Castle as inspiration and made it a color challenge!

My layout is based on a wonderful sketch from Let’s Get Sketchy (May – Week 4):

I pretty much stuck to the sketch. I love the use of 2 photos, with layers and either stencils or stamps or gelatos or even mist! This sketch has so many possibilities!

The complete list of my materials are as follows:
Background paper: Basic Grey
blue pattern paper, die cut title: Anna Griffin
mist: Tattered Angels
cardstock: DCWV
chipboard arrow/heart, word bubble, stickers: MAMBI
gelato, glaze: Faber-Castell
washi: Little B
stencil: My Favorite Things
black pattern paper: from stash
